The MBTI instrument is a personality assessment that identifies and describes your preferences in four key areas of personality:
- Directing your energy
- Gathering information
- Making decisions
- Approaching life
Your combined preferences result in one of 16 different personality types, each with a description of its own unique attributes, strengths and challenges.
Over 2 million people take the MBTI instrument every year, using it to help in areas such as self-understanding and personal growth, career development and planning, work and personal life problem-solving, organization development and team building, and relationship counseling.

When evaluating information on the web, being a careful consumer is essential! While many other personality “tests” are available on-line, only the MBTI instrument has over 50 years of research on its construction, validity, and reliability, ensuring the best accuracy of instrument results.
- Make sure your assessment fee includes an interpretation session.
Because the MBTI instrument is a psychological instrument, the publisher (http://www.cpp.com/) and the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics require that every administration of the MBTI instrument include an interpretation session with a qualified professional. The interpretation session will also help you to better understand and best utilize your results.
- Make sure you are working with an MBTI Qualified Professional.
Professionals are qualified to administer and interpret the MBTI instrument by having the appropriate education, or by attending an approved qualifying program. To help distinguish the skill level of MBTI instrument professionals, the MBTI® Certified Professional designation was created to indicate that in addition to being MBTI-qualified, the professional is held to higher standards that include additional education and practical experience.
